A saying I keep close - “We all let people into our lives, but you will find that really good friends let you into your own.” I have been blessed with such wonderful, beautiful, lifelong friends. On one occasion, I recall a friend referencing a passage from the Bible about gossip, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is useful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” - Ephesians 4:29.

Within just a few months of that let’s just say I hit a mid-life crisis. I was completely lost. I found myself drawn to all sorts of quotes. I scoured Google, Pinterest, and Facebook. I found ones that comforted me and inspired me. I found ones that really fit exactly what I was going through. Somehow then I didn’t feel quite so alone. And by sharing those quotes with others, I was helping myself.

Probably one of the very first quotes that I stumbled upon and still keep close by to this day is, “Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let pain make you hate. Do not let bitterness steal your sweetness.” - Kurt Vonnegut. Everyday it is a choice to think and lead positively. Everyday it takes courage and gumption to keep going forward positively. Don’t get me wrong, there are definitely setbacks. Heart-wrenching, tear-jerking setbacks. That just reminds me of what not to do, how not to be. And I choose to keep going. It might be messy, slow, or tiring. But I keep going. I keep looking for the light. Being the light.

“Travel light, live light, spread the light, be the light.” - Yogi Bhajan
